I’ve spent a vast majority of my adult life working with individuals that are suffering from eating disorders and have seen the devastating consequences of the disorder time and time again. With this being Eating Disorder Awareness Week, I wanted to share with you a very important Act that is fighting to be passed through Congress as we speak. The Anna Westin Act (H.R. 2515/S. 1865) This act seeks to clarify the mental health parody act and ensure that all disorders including eating disorders receive equal treatment to medical coverage. This act will also provide training for health and school professionals on the early detection of eating disorders, which I believe will save many lives. The funds already exist for the training, so no other funds will be needed! We currently have 66 Congress people signed on as well as 7 Senators and momentum is building! In my eyes; this is a critical act that will not only identify the seriousness of eating disorders (which we all know), but also provide more access to care.
