A Recovery Coach’s Thoughts On ‘To The Bone’

To The Bone

As Rosewood’s recovery coach I have to say that I am excited about ‘To The Bone.’  I have seen the trailer and have read many mixed reviews.  No one is wrong in what they feel and I do agree that good and bad may come from this.

I’d like to explain why I am excited about this film.  As the founder and leader of Operation RecoverED, I lead a group of alum and we educate all around our nation on what eating disorders are and what they are not.  We educate through our stories.  Our very different stories.  We talk to children, parents, grandparents, pastors, professionals and state senators.  We talk to anyone who will listen. We are tired of losing our friends to this horrible illness.  It is more common than you may know.  People do not understand what eating disorders are.  Of course this film will not capture the whole truth but in my opinion, it will be a great start.  It will force conversation.  It will force people to ask questions. This will open so many doors for education and awareness.  Eating disorders have always been a secret.  A misunderstood secret. It is time to break this stigma.  This is what we have been trying to do for years. Yes, it will be triggering for so many and I hope that those people are able to set boundaries and not watch it or to surround themselves with the support they need.  Parents, if your children want to watch this, please make the time to sit with them while they watch it and have a discussion.  If you don’t have the answers, please ask.

For me and my team, we stand by waiting to support and educate on the dangers and red flags of eating disorders.
